Some people wonder where they should take formal or posed pictures at their wedding.  If this is you, stop worrying – that’s our job!  We will customize the shoot for every wedding, based on the location and the style of the couple.  That’s part of our job description as wedding photographers.

Don’t mix the formal photographs and the wedding ceremony

The only thing we believe strongly is that the formal pictures should NOT be taken in the same location as the ceremony!  That place is special and beautiful, and the pictures of the ceremony will tell that part of the story.  The formals are another part of the story, and they shouldn’t muddy up the intimate beauty of the ceremony location.  Let us find a different location – like the charming bridge pictured above.

We will often move around a lot.  We will shoot family pictures in one location, wedding party pictures in another location, and we will run all over the place and do mini portrait sessions with the bride and groom throughout the day.  This keeps the album interesting, with different backdrops for the different scenes of the movie of your day.

The picture below is from a mini portrait session from the same wedding, toward the end of the reception.  We spotted a gorgeous fountain outside, and grabbed a flash and the couple and ran outside for about five minutes.  It tells a very different story than the other formals.  Which adds up to telling the whole beautiful story of the day.
